Locking Data fields? can it be done?
« on: April 18, 2011, 11:25:31 AM »
fields.

If i have afiled inserted in a block that say lists the layer that it is currently on.  At present, i can modify this field and it will drop the "field" status and become a dumb attribute.  Is there a way that i can prevent this by making that particular field uneditable.  If the field needed to be changed then the block woul dneed to be moved to the required layer.  I'm using autocad 2008

Any help woul be greatly appreciated.  (i'm using AutoCAD 2008)

Regards

one STOP editing the block   ;-)

otherwise try using CONSTANT value for the field...

and or set the block so that it can NOT be exploded

Even though one thinks it should, the CONSTANT setting doesn't work.  I tried going that route before myself.

What I ended up doing was to place "DO NOT EDIT" as the prompt for the attributes with fields.

If they got over-written it was becuase of a lazy, or illiterate, drafter.

Thanks Nibs for confirmation that the 'only' cure to some of these issues is proper user skill training.
