Anyone knows about this warning message - when opening a drawing?
« on: September 04, 2008, 12:57:02 PM »
I need to save down a lot of drawings, but they show the below warning message, and also after saving them down, still that message is there....

Safe, not safe? possible to get rid of this message? - first time I see this.

Thanks!

Non Autodesk DWG.  This DWG file was saved by a software application not
developed or licensed by Autodesk.  Use of this file with AutoCAD software may
result in stability issues.

Even using a file made entirely in an autodesk product can also lead to instability.

Little more about what I am doing...

These drawings where saved by someone else (Navy from some of their consultants as appears to be A2004), and are required to be saved as A2000

When I open them on my A2007 that message appears, and even after I save down the file, but if I open the save down file in A2002 it shows normal, no message but does not say "Opening an AutoCAD 2000 format file"....  :ugly:

I wouldn't worry about it. It's just a CYA message, saying "don't blame us if something doesn't work."

The reason that message doesn't appear in 2002 is that the "Trusted DWG" feature wasn't introduced until later. Here's what the Help file has to say:

Quote
DWG, DWT, and DWS files that are created with Autodesk applications and RealDWG™-based applications are trusted by Autodesk. When you open a TrustedDWG file, an icon displays in the application status bar or the drawing status bar.

If the DWGCHECK system variable is set to On (1), an alert box is displayed if

- The drawing file format is AutoCAD Release 14 or later and
- The drawing file was not saved by an Autodesk application or RealDWG-based application.

For more information about TrustedDWG, click the TrustedDWG icon.

Kate,

So, can I simple turn off the message and that's it, then.... thanks!

Sure.
As mentioned above - Autodesk products can corrupt a drawing just as fast as a non-Autodesk product.
The whole DWGCHECK thing was just a way to try and stick it to the ODA guys.

To reset the bit in the drawing, you merely need to insert the offending drawing into a blank drawing, explode and save.

Yikes.... those sheets (97) were sent back to the bay area office, they will handle that if they want to :)

Thanks!

This message shows up when a drawing is saved by other products, for example corel draw. I've saved some files from Corel to AutoCAD and this message would pop up everytime I opened them with AutoCAD. But it was just a warning I never had a problem with the files.

me too. Acad is the ONLY progam I use for drawing and I get the same message everytime I open one of my own drawings.
Autodesk can't even recognise their own sodding output!

We get this message when we convert our 2D drawings from our 3D software (I-Deas Unigraphics) to Autocad using the "Autocad Translator"

I have had some issues with our drawings converting over from our 3D software.  I think I have post here about this conversion.
