Does anyone know where to set what you want the alignment segment numbers to start at?

At the moment we're trying to show the curves and it starts at 100 but we'd like it to start at 1 instead.

It took me the longest time to find where to change the default new point number in 2007 and then it seemed to change in 2008.

These things can be soooooo hard to find.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Craig

Sorry Craig, you lost me. Can you perhaps post a screen shot?

Just a guess, but are you perhaps talking about this...?

sinc,

That's exactly what we were looking for. Thanks for that. I don't want to think how long it would have taken me to find that. We couldn't find any reference in the help.

Sorry Mark. I tried to explain it as good as I could. I haven't posted a screen capture in a post yet. Can someone explain how I do this?

Thanks for the help.

Do you have a graphics editing program?

I generally hit the "PrtScr" (Print Screen) button on my keyboard, which copies the screen to the clipboard, then paste that image into a graphics program.  I use the program to clip or otherwise edit the screen shot, then export it to a format more-suitable to posting to the web (.png usually, or maybe compressed .jpg).  Then hit "Additional Options..." when posting a reply, to attach the image.

I haven't bothered loading one onto this laptop as I've tried to keep it clean purely for work applications. I used to use Snagit to grab screen captures. I'm sure that would save to .png which seems to be the more common format for web these days. I wasn't sure if you simply attached the file or had to embed it some other way.

Thanks for that.

I'll give it a try later on. :-)

Paint will work OK if you don't want to install anything.

Just for the record, the theory behind starting at 100 is that you're likely to have curve tags jumping all over the place when using automatic number on parcel layout etc. The thought was that by starting at 100 you wouldn't have to renumber high to have numbers down low when it was time to set them properly. You're going to wind up renumbering most of the time anyway, so that was considered a better solution.

In case you care.... :?

Thanks for that.

We were using the curve numbering for a road alignment centre line so not so many numbers needed.

Personally, I sort of like the numbering starting at a number other than 1, as James says you most likely will renumber most things anyway, this includes parcels. In this case one should set all numbering sequences high (10,000) and then renumber as required with little chance of overlapping.

It would be interesting however IF no number could be assigned during the layout phase, and then begin numbering these items as they were added to say Groups? In this fashion the user could extend this to using lots, and blocks within a parcel numbering scheme, segment numbering, or even Phasing. The user could define a group, and have the position within the group determine it's numbering schema, and let it be repositionable within the list.......
