How does everyone else log their plots?
« on: October 28, 2008, 08:37:55 AM »
We're running Plotclient software that came with the K&E printer. We have two configurations setup...one for plt files and one for direct plotting. The software tracts the plt file plotting, but not the direct plotting. Is there an easy way to track the the direct plots? It's a pain in the a$$ to create a plt file, open plotclient, browse to the folder find the file for just 1 or 2 plots.

We used to just write it down on a clipboard by the plotter.

My new job, we don't keep track.

Our KIP keeps a log of what gets plotted to it.  We don't track anything else.

Unfortunately we don't log anything (other than when the toner was refilled).  If we DID log the plots, I'm sure the PMs and designers would think twice about asking for 15 full-size sets to be plotted out.  Yeah, it's very rare that we get reimbursed for our plotting.  Sometimes I think we're a flippin' reprographics house!

We dont log our plots either. We've never felt the need to do so.
Thanks for explaining the word "many" to me, it means a lot.

ACAD automatically logs our plots, but no one's paying attention...

After several years of charging clients for individual plots (and tracking them), we found that it didn't change much between projects so it was decided to go with a flat rate.
If you are going to fly by the seat of your pants, expect friction burns.

KIP?.....basically that's where any attempt to keep track of plots goes....right down the Kerb Inlet Pit.

These days the boss guesses how many drawings will be involved in a job...and how many reproductions (you know...A1 copies), and includes all that in the price submission. So we plebs can just get on with the job. Also...the Engineers have been told to plot their own drawings, once we have set up PDFs of them. That is the best part, no bloody engineers coming up at the worst time requiring immediate plots of specific drawings. Even the boss apologised to me today. He gave me an email with an attachment, and asked me to plot out the drawings in the attachment. When I plotted them, and took them to him, he was amazed that there were so many of them. He asked why so many, I explained that the attachment was a zip file with all the PDFs in it. He bowed his head and apologised, and said he could have plotted them all himself. My boss...still learning computers. I just walked away laughing.

I will pay someone to write a routine that does the following:

1. Subsequent of hitting ok on the plot dialog box, automatically bring up a simple dialog box that has:
      a) A text box for the account #
      b) A scroll box that has a quantity from 1 thru 100.

2. Based on above info create a plot log that has:
       Date, Account #, Quantity

I can Paypal you if interested.

Have you seen this?  Maybe you can get CAB to add some mods and send 'im a check (or cheque, depending on your locale).

Did I get it right?  Or is there supposed to be a 'C' before the 'Q'?
