Land Desktop/MAP 2008 upgrade to 2009
« on: July 09, 2008, 06:21:57 AM »
I just received the 2009 version from Subscription. I have heard of some issues and wanted to ask if anyone had any thoughts or experience with the new versions.

To upgrade or wait, that is the question.

Map 2009 does indeed have some issue currently; best to wait until Service Pack is released to see how many it 'fixes'
Also, on no account should you uninstall 2008 version just in case.

Unless there is some new AutoCAD or MAP feature that you can't live without, I would just shelf it. Nothing new on the LDT side.

Do not ever wait for the service pack. Use the junk and make it crash; this way you won't have to wait until the second service pack for all the things to be fixed. Use the product for something even if it is your own personal video game where you get points for crashing it into the wall. If autodesk is going to make us pay to beta test the product, you need to get in there and get your money's worth. Come on, you are part of the solution, or.....

I see your point - BUT - I only have 1 machine and need to focus on production. If (ha ha) I have time I would like to. I have with the releases prior to this...

I think Michael forgot his "tounge-in-cheek" emoticon when he regurgitated the Autodesk company line.   :-D

I have used it and submitted numerous Error Reports too; even had some feedback relating to them.
But as a tool of production, at the moment, it is nowhere near as efficient or stable enough to justify using it for the benefit of the company.

Really now, can we keep this professional, and not hurl insults like that around again, OK?

 :lmao:

you kill me (obviously doesn't know me)

Although the irony is my statement is true.

See if no one loads the new version, waiting for the Service Pack, autodesk doesn't know there is a problem.
If they don't get X or Y number of error reports they assume that those errors are your faults, and do nothing about them.
If you don't crash the thing, they wont fix it. Even if you do crash it, and just want say, leading zero's options, or say MAP compatibility, they won't fix it. However I digress; fact is everyone that waits to drive this thing into the wall is responsible for the damn thing still crashing even after waiting for the service pack.  Go build another PC to test the new version on it, and just throw crap at the new version for say 2-4 hours every day when it first comes out. Push every button load every command, mash the gas and turn left, and crash that sucker, repeatedly, and send in those error reports.
And every time you send one in; say out loud, I will No Longer Subscribe to this abuse.

Easy- it was a joke...

I do see your point. Although I can't afford 2-4 hours a day playing...in fact I can't afford to be here right now either...  :-o

I'm too curious of new toys not to play with it at some point.
But I think I am not ready to deploy it for the rest of our production staff untill I hear that some of the issues are resolved.

Yep.  Nice development model they've got implemented there, eh?  They release a product that is too buggy for their customers to use, yet they can't fix the product unless the customers use it.

Wonder if that's how they stated it in their business plan.
