Thanks Keith.  We're looking at a few of KIP's products right now.  We'll have a few pitched at us tomorrow from a supplier.  We're meeting to discuss this stuff and a document management system called GDox.  Anyway, thanks again!

So, you do hardware and software procurement as well as draw?

Oh yeah....That's the name of the game around here...people get laid off or retire and don't get replaced, so everyone else around them takes up the slack.  Not the best practice, but they'll learn their lesson some day.  I'm not the guy who actually BUYS the stuff...I just do all the research and investigation, get quotes and stuff like that.  I haven't done any drafting in over a month!  Printed out some drawings, but that's about it.

Tell me about it!  I do like the change in jobs though.  When I'm working back out of the office, I do a bunch of other stuff as well.  I do a lot of graphics for control systems for plants and breweries.  Basically, they're the computers & screens that the process operators use to control valves, pumps, etc.  I really like that, but I'm glad I don't do it full time.  I don't think I'd be drafting anymore if I had been doing that and only that since I got hired 8 years ago.  Variety is the spice of life.

Well, I'm going to Mississauga (Toronto) on Friday to have a look at an HP 815MFP.  It looks good, but we'll see, I guess.  We don't have a lot of high volume jobs, so I think this one should suffice.  Any comments?

Well, I've been telling the guys in purchasing that even if it works at all, it's better than what we've got.  Our copier stopped working completely.  Actually, it needs developer which says it requires a service technician to do, but that requires a service contract, whcih we no longer have.

Ah well...like you said, it says HP on it, so I'm not too worried at all...

Our KIP had to have developer added and it costed $800 for a 5# bottle and it took the guy like 20 minutes to put it in and have it up and running again....but we were having so many problems with it that we just replaced it...

Developer is generally not something you want to tackle on yor own

My only problem with "all-in-ones" is if one of them craters, you're kinda stuck.  I have an older HP "all-in-oner" and the head rail twisted out of the printer case (out of warranty) which makes it useless for anything but a scanner, and it's a great scanner, hi-res, OCR, even has some software to recognize musical notes.  But I still needed to go buy another printer.

That sucks!

Thanks for the heads up, CADaver.

I guess the term "All your eggs in one basket" really fits there....

I was just told that we now have the approval for just over $27K for this thing...I almost couldn't believe it!  Not the amount, but the approval!

Alright, we looked at the HP815mfp and it does what we need it to do, but it's kinda slow.  Now, speed isn't a deal breaker, but if it were faster, it would be the deal maker.  We also looked at a Ricoh 240W.  That was pretty sweet, but it didn't do colour, so we'd either have to hope our existing 650C would last us another year or two or buy an HP500 as well as the Ricoh.  That goes over our budget though :(.
Does anyone have experience with both Ricoh and KIP?  If you had to chose between the two, which would you go with?

OCETDS400

This is the one we just bought. it is really nice. Does a superb job of printing and scanning. There are three components to it the scanner which just scans- the printer - and the brain (crt). It really is simple to run.  I'm not sure how much you want to spend this cost us about 28. Welll worth the money though.

Iknow I just threw another duck into the pond....
