Garage Plans?
« on: July 15, 2004, 02:36:56 PM »
I am going to build a garage at home in the near future. I have looked on the web for FREE ACAD dwgs, (blueprints), of garages. I have found MANY of sites that will sell them, but I want them FREE.

Way back when, I mean several years ago, I found a site that had a couple of House plans that were free. Of course, they had a disclaimer releasing them of all liability. I don't have a clue what the site was or if it is still up and running, etc...

I planned on drawing my own plans, but figured 'why re-invent the wheel'. I figure if I can get a couple that that are similar to what I want, I can then modify them as needed.

Do any of you have / know where I can get some FREE / PUBLIC - plans?

Thanks in advance, craigr

Craigr, the path you are treading is a very dangerous and slippery one. I don’t know where you are from, but you may well need planning permission to enable you to develop your site. For this, (certainly in England) you will need plans showing the site and relationship with the surrounding buildings and indeed your house.

To enable you to gain Building Regulation Approval you would need to submit detailed plans of the actual building that you are going to build, these would detail such things as foundations, wall construction, roof construction etc. .Now whilst it is true that there are several ready designed garage plans available, these would require you to purchase the garage from that company. Free plans that could be used without alteration should be treated with extreme caution and would not provide enough information for your site. I would always walk away from a client who whished to follow this route.

Now on the other hand, if you want to pay me, I would be more than happy to produce plans for you.

I agree with 42... while I do have a set of plans for a garage... in fact I just drew them recently, I would never simply give them away to someone to build for themselves. I have several hours work in the drawings and quite honestly I am not in the habit of doing alot for free ... except coding.. I love coding....

Here Here!

Really what you need to do is Barter with someone....

Thats actually what I did with my neighbor; We were talking about it, I said I would draw up the plans - simple single story garage - as for payment  - he is a machinest - he made me a giant lizard out of steel to hang on my wall. The lizzard is so awesome. And he was estatic to have a professional set of plans - Permit went through without a hitch -

I myself still believe in the old ways....

I think we should start calling Linda "Lizzard" instead of "Jassper" ...

How about doing the work yourself, our paying for them! Very dangerous copying stuff, as everybody has already said!  I am doing a garage myself, but I am getting help from a friend who does them regualarly and I am doing services drawings for him!
