Would the users workspace affect how the menu's are viewed ??  We don't use but one workspace, the default, so it shouldn't be a problem, but I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing in my setup as well ?.

Yes.  That's basically what the workspaces are for.  You define the various toolbars and menus in the various CUI files, but the workspace is what controls which ones are visible, and where they are placed on the screen.  Any given menu or toolbar can appear in one workspace but not another, or it can appear in different places in two different workspaces.

It seems that the original intent of workspaces was to customize the UI, depending on the task.  So when you are performing Task A, you see toolbars on the screen that help with Task A, and when you are doing Task B, you see toolbars on the screen that are related to Task B.  In our experience, though, it's more annoying to switch workspaces than to just configure a nice "generic" workspace.

Around here, we basically have one workspace per user, and each user customizes his individual workspace as desired.  I also have two workspaces for myself, one for my setup at work (with one monitor) and one for my setup at home (with dual monitors).
