Trim from Text?
« on: November 08, 2006, 11:33:20 AM »
When I have a wire (Line) go thru text, I typically draw horizontal lines at the top and bottom of the text then offset it .03, then trim the wire between those 2 offset lines.

I noticed that I CAN do a trim from the text, but it doesn't trim to the distance that  I want.

Is there a setting that controls this distance?

I think that it trims to the "bounding box" and as such would not be user configurable

There is a textmask command that lets you set the offset distance, not sure about trim though.  Textmask doesn't delete your object lines just sort of hides them behind your text.

'Hides lines behind the text' - That's even better!!

I will investigate that command

Be warned...someone in the landlubber forum had problems with this command.  Might be civil program oriented, but not sure.

Textmask appears to be unavailable in LT - Thanks anyway.

ElpanovEvgeniy - What do you mean by 'The split is equal to line spacing...' ?

I've noticed that sometimes I have to pick the line more than once to get it to trim properly under the text. I don't know if it has to do with the sysvar Edgemode or not.

Does LT2005 allow mtext to have a background mask? You might have to search for it. Check the properties palette. If it's there, you should be able in the mtext dialog to adjust its size. Of course, this only works with mtext and dimensions, that I know of.
