Do you have a new project that you need to get started but have no topo information and all you can get from the surveyor is a bunch of "too codes" ie "too wet", "tool cold", too many leaves", etc.?
GISUSER.COM (http://www.gisuser.com/content/view/701/28/) has a link to free DEM downloads that you can use to build a preliminary 6 meter resolution surface for some rough grades. These DEMs overlay a standard 7-1/2 minute USGS quad map and in fact they are indexed by the USGS Quad name in the state and county being searched.
There is a log in box on the home page but there is no membership or log in needed for these files.
