Okay here's the scenario...

We were on A2K using our own pen settings file (ctb) that printed everything just the way we wanted it.

Okay now we have moved to ADT2006 where the concept is to drawing everything as objects.  Well ADT puts everything on specific layers as determined by Layer Keys.  Well all this is built-in and pretty much automatic, we decided not to buck the system and are trying to use the new tools like they were intended.  Well I made some wall types with the sizes I wanted  by copying an original wall type and modifying it to suit.

Now I am having diffuculty getting my walls or ADT's walls to print out correctly.  They either come out looking all screened or they come out all the same darkness with a darker border around each of them.

I think I am supposed to be using an 'stb' for plotting by object but I am not sure which one to use.

Does this make any sense?  Has anyone else had any of these problems?

Can someone please help me?

There are 2 ways to fix this: 1- adapt your ctb file to the new colors, or 2 change the ADT file that controls layer color to meet your ctb.  I vote 2 as its easier since you know your colors

I don't think those two options are really viable Cmdr because option 1 we would to basically recreate all the objects in ADT and that would take forever, and option 2 I don't think we can change the ADT tools to meet a ctb file.  I think they have to be plotted using an stb file because of how they are created.

We have decided to use the AIA layers that are included in ADT we just can't get it to print out correctly.  How are you other guys doing this?  We can't be the only firm to have this problem?

Actually you can change the tool to meet your ctb file.  you have control over every layer that ADT uses.  Color, name, everything.

To adapt your ctb file, you need to know what thickness you want for each color YOU used to use.  Red was ??, Blue was ??.

Then you take the new colors ADT uses, for instance 30 for walls, and you say, My walls used to be red, which was ?? thick, now 30 is going to be that thick.

Does that make sense?

...kinda...

Can you elaborate a little more?

Lets say that in your ctb file your colors go like this
Code: [Select]

red = .1
yellow = .2
green = .3
cyan = .4
blue = .5
magenta = .6
white = .7

and your walls were a nice bold .7 (white)
Now you want to use the new ADT wall, but they are color 30.  So in a new CTB (keep the old one for legacy projects or for reference) change color 30 to .7 to give you the same size plotted walls.

Now your windows were green (.3) and in ADT they are color 97, so in new ctb you make color 97 .3

Does that help or are you wanting to edit the layer keys to change the color of the layers to match your old ctb file?

That makes perfect sense Cmdr.  Let me work on this little while and see if I can get some headway.

Thanks
