Hi, everybody!
Lets see if anybody can help me. I have a dwg file in my intranet server that auto-dissapears :uglystupid2: (I've got back-up, so there's no problem). I tried a copy in the server drive from our back-up drive, but dissapears automatically again :evillaugh:. I've copied it with another name and stays... :? I've tried to rename the new one with the old name and dissapears again :tickedoff:.
Did anyone had the same problem and knows why does it happens (and how solved it, of course) :idea:?

What OS does the server have running on it?

what IF you add something like DrawingName001.dwg does the file stay or does it hide?

Sounds like to me that there is an ITbot on the server that has it parameters settings to "anal"

We'll need a lot more information.
What are you naming the drawing ?
Is it the only drawing this happens to ?
Are you using any synchronising software ?
etc ...

Hi, Kdub.
The name is like "XXX_03 Y.1.1.ABCDEFG HI JKLMNOPQRST.dwg"; is in the only file that it happens; no, we don't use any synchronising software.
The path is like "I:\Folder01\Folder02\Folder03\Folder04\Folder05\Folder06\Folder07" (sorry, i'm not allowed to show true name and path). The longest folder name is Folder03 with 47chars, and includes two "." and five spaces.

what if you put some other file type like a document or a picture in the folder structure with the same name, does it stay
or also disappear?
Trying to rule out file type or file name being the cause of it's problem.

Individual components of a filename (i.e. each subdirectory along the path, and the final filename) are limited to 255 characters, and the total path length is limited to approximately 32,000 characters. However, you should generally try to limit path lengths to below 260 characters ( MAX_PATH ) when possible.

Placing periods anywhere in a path or filename except to delineate the file extension is asking for worlds of pain. Just don't. Notwithstanding path length limitations.

Thanks mjfarrell: I've changed original file extension to PDF with the same name and stays there, unscathed. So, I conclude that it must be a problem with the file name and extension and only with that file name and extension.

Do you have some sort of EDMS? could that be causing issues?

What antivirus are you using? Perhaps a false positive?

As far as I know, no EMDS is used, Alterego.
McAfee, ronjonp. Checked the file and absolutely clean.

Does it disappear immediately, or over night? If over night .. perhaps a cleanup script is being run?
