I've just recently again tried 2016 to see if the latest update resolved the issues with PDF, and some of them have... Yet I cannot get DWG to PDF to _NOT_ produce Bookmarks, _NOT_ display the resultant PDF in viewer (I use Autopublish to produce PDF at SAVE*), nor can I get it to stop showing the Thumbnails, etc. in the resultant PDF.
Anyone found a way of solving this?

I should note that I've also tried the various additional PDF printers that come with 2016, and even EXPORTPDF Command with no change (modifying respective settings accordingly to accomplish the above). Grrr

I do see that my profile's ..\Dialogs\AcAutoPublishOpts\, etc. keys in HKCU do not match the settings for DWG to PDF, etc. as shown above. Manually correcting them (after exporting current) does not rectify the issue (even after session quit/launch).

Agreed.
I've search for any Autodesk-related Key/Value/Data that contains "Publish," "ViewFile," or "Bookmarks" (there are several), modified them all and no change to the undesired behavior....
Again, even after session quit, and re-launch, just in case those registry-saved settings were loaded into fields via code-behind.

AutoCAD 2016 Service Pack 1 (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autocad-2016-service-pack-1.html) added the system variable EPDFSHX
When plotting PDF files, SHX text in PDF comments can be turned off by setting EPDFSHX=0 (the default is 1). In addition, some PDF viewers display text that uses SHX fonts as comments and this system variable addresses this issue as well. In a future release, we plan to rename this system variable to begin with the letters PDF

I already have Civil 3D SP1, and SP2 (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-civil-3d/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-C2-AE-autocad-C2-AE-civil-3d-C2-AE-2016-service-pack-2.html?v=2016) installed, and EPDFSHX == 0.

Getting tired of closing the PDF after each sheet drawing save/close (only in 2016), I used EXPORTPDF Command & DWG to PDF printer just a moment ago (same settings as shown above, and in the applied named Page Setup), and the resultant PDF did not produce bookmarks, but did have thumbnails tab selected (File, Properties, Initial View tab, Navigation tab dropdown, Pages Panel and Page). :-( WTF
[Edit] - 2015 doesn't do any of this, with the same instance of Adobe Acrobat. Grrr

Well firstly, I've never heard of Bluebeam Batch :-D... Second, when I just Googled it, Bluebeam Revu CAD (http://www.bluebeam.com/us/products/revu/pricing.asp) comes up @ $310 per seat ($259+$51). :-o

I don't have any ideas for the orig question/problem but, since this thread took a slight side-bar (I hope you forgive me for adding to it). Give the XPS plotter a try. It's simple, fast (ish), and reliable.

I have been using PDF-Xchange (https://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-pro) for a long time with good results. In earlier versions of AutoCAD (2013 and before) it consistently produced better and much smaller PDFs and it is much faster. It's also much more configurable.
I use a PDF.pc3 file so I can swap out the PDF printer at a later date (in theory). I also use Plotter.pc3 and A3.pc3 for the same reason, also because I use various set-ups in for various clients. Swapping them out always seems to be much harder than it should be but ... AutoCAD.
Confession: I'm still using v2013 so I can't comment on the newer versions and PDF.

We have also been using PDF-Xchange with very good results. Don't remember when we first got it but working on Civil 3d 2016 now with no issues. We have a very similar setup to what CADbloke described.

Have you saved a .pc3 file with everything unchecked? Are you using that pc3 file as your PDF Preset?

Yes, and yes.
There have been multiple instances where despite everything being unchecked, some have made their way into the resultant PDF file(s), and only after changing OTHER 2016 PDF drivers, and unrelated Command settings were the saved settings observed.

[Edit] - I should note that in the above linked thread, I did create a formal case as suggested, which Bryce subsequently closed without a single email, post, etc. letting me know why - and to boot, absolutely nothing was ever done to rectify the issues I demonstrated.
