Title: Layer Keys???

I got upgraded to LDD 2005 about a  month ago and just ran across an icon in the lower right corner that refers to Layer Key Overrides. That's a new thing to me, so I tried to do a little "Help" research to see what Layer Keys are and how they work, but so far everything seems a little foggy to me. Just about everything refers mainly to ADT and Architecture. Are there any Civil guys out there using Layer Keys that can give me brief idea of how you set them up, how they work and how they help in keeping Laying Standards consistent?? Is this something that if I knew more about would be a benefit to me in Civil design work?

I don't know if this feature even works in LDD.  I have never had any luck geting it to do anything in any of the civil apps.

Thanks for the input. I'm guessing it has to do with Layer Standards when creating new layers, but I haven't been able to see when or how I would use it. I just saw it as something new and was curious to see if anybody else was using it. From the lack of responses, it doesn't look like it has much application to LDD.

I think I saw somewhere that it is tied into the AIA standards.  One may get it to  sort of work if they changed all of LDD's defaults (quite a daunting task), but there are a lot of those that don't have a corresponding name in AIA.
If you go to the other end of the spectrum - Civil 3D seems to want everything placed on layer zero if you use it out of the box . . . go figure!
