Title: 3D PDFs
Post by: jonesy on February 24, 2014, 05:05:38 PM
Anyone here got any experience doing these in AutoCAD?

What extra software do we need?

I've been told Microstation can do them, but I really dont want to be opening up these models in Microstation...

Many thanks in advance.

T :)

Holy cow! AutoCAD has enough trouble with 2D PDFs... well it used to, it's a lot better now.

With a quick search, it looks like you need a plug-in like BlueBeam or Tetra.

Thanks for your reply Rob.  Have you had any experience of these plug ins?

We've never had any 2d pdf issues in AutoCAD

We've had some requests from a client which had been using non-Autodesk software for a while.  Everybody else has been working with Navisworks NWD files (including that particular client).  While it has a certain cool-factor along with everybody already having a PDF viewer on their computer, when I last tried 3D PDF the test file crashed frequently enough to make me move on quickly.

Thanks dgorsman,  this project is using Bentley navigator for co-ordination drawings for the most part, and apparently Microstation does produce 3d pdfs for the engineers to check the work... I just hate plotting on Microstation, so was trying to find a work around, as my native files are in Acad.

I may have to have a word with the Microstation boys and find out how to do it on there.

Not as far as I am aware, but its all linked with Projectwise, Microstation, Revit, Civil 3d and vanilla ACAD... but I guess there could be some other software in there too!
