I'm imported several shp files through the data manager in the taskpane (water, sewer, etc.). I now have lines and structures. The structures can easily be changed to display any block style I choose, but the lines (pipes) are limited to a small list of linetypes. Is there a way to load additional linetypes?
I'm sure I'm not asking the right questions, but this is a little new to me.

one may either use any of the PATTERNS listed loaded in the file or create a new composite line type in the thematic style dialog
OK, the above is true...
One could also save the file with that data in it, and use it as a data source.
And then run a(n) Alter Properties query against it.
*fun with the MT data eh?*

Where's the thematic style dialog?

I'm still limited to the 'patterns' in the pulldown list and I have all our linetypes loaded. What am I missing?

that MAP doesn't use a linetype file for thematic mapping.....
what linetpye do you really want on there? something like -----S----- ?
then you will be adding a label to those lines...
or exploring the power of the ALTER PROPERTIES query functionality to bring the data in an place on the desired layers with proper linetypes

Precisely what I want. Either would be fine. This is my first time doing this, so I'm a little lost.
Could you point me in the direction of ALTER PROPERTIES?

To use labels, one would need object data record {S} for sewer, I'm guessing you do not have such a field in the ODT.
This points us in the direction of the ALTER PROPERTIES
Process is as follows
New File>>Set Coordinate System>>Insert SHP files
Be sure to toggle on the option to Create Object Data
Save this file
New File>>Set Coordinate System>>Attach File created above to the taskpane MAP Explorer Tab
Right click>>Current Query to Define a query
note that you can alter layer (good choice) Linetype not so much, etc
for a lot of data one may want to investigate use of RANGE Table, to match say 8" pipe to that layer, 12" pipe to it's own etc
one could do this for layer, linetype or color properties...in your specific instance.
This is why I try to always include at least two or three reasonable MAP exercises in all my C3D classes.

There's a WATERTYPE" field, which stats that it's 'Sewage'.
I'll try your other option...

One could create an expression and truncate that field to be only an S.
