Title: having memory loss - DRAGMODE

Can anyone remember what is wrong with your cad setup if when you
go to insert a block it does not drag along with the curser. It is completely
invisible until all info is entered.
Didn't used to be this way

This is memory from many many years ago, but I thought that happened when you had 2 lines on top of each other.

that's what I thought but when I tried it the block was
still invisible until you finish inputing all the data, really hard
to locate it in the proper location, but I will try again maybe
a restart of autocad might help.

Matt's right though... "On" won't help you... set it to Auto and you should be all set.

When it is on, the image of an object is displayed as you drag it to another position. With some computer configurations, dragging can be time-consuming. Use DRAGMODE to suppress dragging.
0  Does not display an outline of the object as you drag it
1  Displays the outline of the object as you drag it only if you enter drag at the command prompt after selecting the object to drag
2  Auto; always displays an outline of the object as you drag it

Are you using a built-in command to insert the block, or are you doing it with a LISP or VBA program?  You won't get the ghosting effect with the latter.

I am using the built in INsert command. The block inserts fine
but it does not drag around with you while you are looking for
an insert point. The Dragmode is set to AUTO. I may have to
try to reload Autocad as this has not been an issue before
and was working earlier this year maybe something got screwed up.

Hmmm strange.

Did you try setting DRAGMODE to OFF and then, back to Auto?

ok people should relay all the information.
This was not on my computer but someone elses.
I told him early this morning to turn his dragmode to auto.
He said that did not work.
I was just talking with him and he says yes the visibility and
drag are working fine but he is getting everything the the command
window now and not getting the dialog box.
I told him that someone must have changed his computer to
-insert instead of insert and walked away.
I hate it with a passion when you try to help someone and he
doesn't tell you that one thing is fixed but something else has come
up.  RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRoy.

Actually this was my world for many years. I finally got out of it about 3 years ago
and lately it has just been the odd "can you give me a hand with something or

Was watching this show on Discovery Channel about tree harvesters / lumberjacks whatever... one guy had to switch positions to an undesirable job to fill in for an injured guy... once trained on the equipment he vulgarly shouted "Great, now I've committed a cardinal sin in the company... I know how to run this ***** *BEEP* **** *BEEP* thing... now I'll always get stuck doing it"

I know the guy Whodo is talking about, too... I worked with both of them in the past.  I just worked on some of that guys' drawings this morning.

That also happens if you check the option to explode the block on insert. If you don't have that box checked (or if your macro doesn't have an * in front of the block name), you can see the block outline.

Nope I give, like josh said, its not that I have learned how to use the machine,
its that I don't want anyone else here to know just how well I can run the machine.
Time to act stupid, and before anybody says anthing I know that should not be hard.
