Dialog made with OPENDCL are not compatible with ObjectDCL for many good reason.

You making any money selling something that someone else is giving away - for FREE??

Just out of curiosity, what separates ObjectDCL from OpenDCL.  I mean.. why would someone choose ObjectDCL over OpenDCL?  What makes it better?

I'm keenly interested in reading about these "good reasons". Can you provide a link?

Thank you for the warning (sure glad I asked).

{ download canceled }

... it will be interesting to see if in OpenDCL could it be possible to change the extension(s)?

Probably a good strategy for the long term to avoid confusion and woes, and to branch now rather than defer it to later.

I'll float candidates "odr" and "odx", both of which are unassigned according to filext.com (http://filext.com) and wotsit.org (http://www.wotsit.org) ...

odr = OpenDCL Resource
odx = OpenDCL Encrypted

Andrea

What is your costing structure for sales ?
Will previously licensed ObjectDCL users be able to 'Upgrade' at a special rate ?

These are not casual questions.

For many reasons…
(that I never thought I'd need to explain)

The functionality, the compatibility with multiple Windows platforms, support, warranty, reliability and most importantly..
the legacy value of the product.

Moreover, ObjectDCL is not PATCHED like OpenDCL is…but re-thought in its design.

On a more technical point, OpenDCL is using specific reserved evolutive fields in the file format in a way that make impossible to know what is what !..
So this latter situation makes it almost impossible for us to provide such support.

In the future, ObjectDCL will provide many poweful options that OpenDCL is unlikely provide.

thanks.

{ blink } These are reasons why ObjectDCL is not compatible with OpenDCL file formats?

... the legacy value of the product.

Can you share more information with regards to legacy value?

More value questions ...

You do know the OpenDCL source code is readily available, yes?

It almost impossible for us to provide such support.

{ shrug }

In the future, ObjectDCL will provide many poweful options that OpenDCL is unlikely provide.

I look forward to seeing these claims fulfilled and sincerely wish you much luck in your collective efforts to meet these goals.

One last question, what role do you fulfill exactly with regards to ObjectDCL?

These are legitimate questions, I hope you respond accordingly.

Thank you.

That's pretty funny. This proves that he hasn't been keeping up-to-date with OpenDCL.

I think you read the wrong line..

Simple, we are the owner of legal and original product of ObjectDCL copyright.

Are you sure you listed the products in the correct order?
lol !

yes...has you said,...pretty funny. That the advantage of your OpenSource.  ;-)

For all other questions:
-as tell, ObjectDCL was re-thought, no update is possible for the OLD version.
-Floating licence system comming this autumn.
-Forum disscussion project comming..
-documentation and support programming for all customers.
-paypal system will be available in few days on our website.

I hope this will answer some questions.

thanks and Have a good day all.

Thank you for your responses Andrea; cherry picked and comedic as they may be.

Since my original posting I've decided to contribute my efforts to the OpenDCL cause, and as such, cannot participate in this thread unbiased and impartial, so I'm voluntarily vacating this thread.

Be well and prosper.

Michael.

I would hope so, that’s what open source is all about right? Of course,
I guess there would need to be some guidelines so it doesn’t become a free-for-all. :lmao:

Ok, I'm confused. I thought it was supposed to be free for all?

:D

Only project administrators can upload revised source code, so any code contributions have to be reviewed and approved by me or David Robinson. In practice, I control the source code right now. I hope other C++ programmers will get involved, so I'm happy to see Daniel contributing, and I welcome your contributions as well. Ideally, a team of 4 or 5 volunteer programmers should maintain and update the source code, but there always needs to be one individual (or a comittee with appropriate structure) that has veto power. :)

Luis, at least 5 others that I know of have been able to compile the project successfully. Just make sure you have VS 2005 and set up environment variables and install my VCBuildHook utility as described on my web site, and it should compile without any problems. Actually understanding the code architecture (such as it is) isn't so simple, but it's not rocket science either.

Sometime later this year I will make more of an effort to define the project architecture, and create some kind of tutorial to get newbies acquainted with the code. Until then, just dive in, the water's fine.

Have you tried to work using the whole project?...

Luis,

Sorry, I misunderstood your question.

I am now able to build the “whole” solution by following Owens instructions. If greenhorn like me can do it, I’m sure a master like you can do it easily. As for understanding the code… well I am in it for the same reasons as you, to learn from a great bunch of people and in the process, maybe I can help out.

PS. Owens VCBuildHook utility is so cool.
