Hi All
Has anybody installed the new Civil 3D 2010 sp 2 yet and any feedback as to if it really helps solve serious issues? or cause some new issues. I keep getting this error while trying to load. See attached. It doesn't make a lot of sense as this is the DVD drive.
Thanx

makes perfect sense as you probably can't write to the dvd drive...I would say copy the SP to a local, or networked drive and try again.

It seems that IT did a dup. profile, according to what I was able to understand a few other services used/not used at our city that could be the problem.
Thanks

so you were working with a duplicate profile, or they had to set up another one for you to remove or adjust your permissions?

It was a permission thing. Our IT dept has given a good college try, that when they install Autocad C3D 2010 that you can't do just a Admin profile and have C3D 2010 work. You have to actually (at our localation) login as the person and change all permissions to full Admin in order to install C3D 2010 properly. This is for the circumstance of stand-alone only, mind you. So, stick with this type of install. And since I tried to do it (they changed my permissions) then that is why I couldn't install the update. So, problem solved. (I really don't like IT that doesn 't understand the install process). I tried to warn them before of this but they explained that using Admin profile rather than the person profile with Admin permissions to load C3D 2010 is different. Good lesson for them and me.

I try to tell all IT folks "Give the cad users FULL admin permissions on their local domain; it will make your life easier."
Some listen, some have their certificate stuck in their ears, and wont hear anything.

Would you please give a statement that recommends this to me before I leave the City. I need a Prof. to tell them that there ideas on how Autocad C3D* is installed and maintained are not wise. It is like talking to a brick wall here. I need the ammo. Being your a person who trains/mentors and all, it would make a true difference to me and the city. On your letterhead.
Thanks

Please send me names and or contact information to my inbox, and I will happily send to all.
I don't know that 'winning' this battle just before you leave is a good thing.
Trouble is there are TWO schools of IT thought
1) Give the user no permissions to make my life easier (as the administrator)
although this isn't the most effective for cad it works great if you want to show up and drink coffee and swap out back up tapes...
2) Give the user full admin on their local domain, have them sign Acceptable Use agreement, and walk away.
insert various and sundry User created issues from doing whatever here; some users wont ever be a problem, some will
Add-Remove permissions accordingly; and deal with random user created issues every day. So ones 'work' at work is more work.
However; if you do not want me to contact these folks AND advance your cause.
I will send you to beard the lion armed ONLY with this as your armour, shield, and sword:

User permissions required to run Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2005 and 2006
Published date: 2005-Jul-20

Applies to:
Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2010
Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2009
Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2008
Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2007
Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2006
Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2005
Issue
You want to know if user permissions are required to run Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2005 and 2006.
Solution
Under Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Windows XP, you must have administrator permissions in order to install and uninstall Autodesk® Civil 3D®.
To run Autodesk Civil 3D 2005 and Civil 3D 2006, you do not need power user or administrator permissions. You can run the program as a limited user.
If hearing from Autodesk isn't good enough then I will need to speak to them directly. (Warming up the Bus) ;-)

In addition it appears that there is also some sort of Win install blocker beyond having Admin permissions going on here too. If I ever find out I'll let you know what they or it is.

We have installed it on several machines with no problems.
