Upgrading COGO points.... (loading.....)
« on: March 22, 2016, 08:55:29 AM »
In our production group, we just upgraded to Civil3D 2016. When we xref drawings that have survey points and surfaces into our plan sheets, it takes (awhile) for them to load. Anybody have any ideas what is going on possibly?

does pressing F2, and looking at command line history reveal anything?
give us a look at what you see there...

points, in XREF should be pretty harmless, as technically they are 'only' acad objects in that instance

This is what I get in the screenshot. Nothing else within the log file.

Looking at the screen shot it sure doesn't look that way. :-/

this suggests that ALL your files that you desire to XREF should

A)be opened in 2016 and saved

There is also so discussion regarding possibility that some of the point group(s) may be out of date, and or if survey database is disconnected loading may improve....

have you set up a test to first open and save xrefs, against not doing this to test load times?

Ok. I did some more tests, Any time there are no points inside a file (COGO) its fast and the bottom right corner of (Upgrading COGO Points.) is not there. With any cogo points within an xref, it says upgrading, waits awhile and then I can start working. Its just weird. I did this all in the same version of CAD / and just added a cogo point to the same template I was using on the others.

Of note this 'problem' dates back to 2013 release, so it's a known issue left unaddressed for all these years...Thanks Autodesk!

also the best I can tell is that all of this results from a change in the database extension, not from any change or increase in the point objects functionality.

In other words, all the pain, with no rewards for our suffering.
