Is there a way to purge several acad drawings for archive purposes, with out altering the last modification date?

well, this type of things require a good file structure that way you wont need to purge those drawings...purging drawings means that you are getting rid of a bunch of drawings that might be very important or worthless. finding out whether or not it is worthless after you purge is too late. once i work on project and send it out to the bldg. dept or client, i create a .rar file with the date and revision with all the drawings i had sent out. i do this just in case the client says..."revert back to the old plan" or "print out what it looked like last month". these things helple me and the company so that we dont get in trouble...take that into consideration.

Huh?  :?

Purging drawings gets rid of unused layers, ltypes, blocks, etc within a drawing file and generally reduces filesize...  It has nothing to do with deleting drawings.

Ah, a simple missunderstanding...

The answer to the original question is

Yes, it's possible, but it's extremely time consuming and not at all worth it. And, for what it's worth, it's a matter of changing the attributes of the modofied files to reflect the original date and time once the purge is complete. Now I'm sure that one of the Python Wizards here could probably write a handy little script that would make note of the date and time of each file and revert them back once the purging is complete but it's beyond my meager abilities. I'd end up doing it manually if I had to... can't imagine why I would want to... but, well, there you go.

Why do you want to do that anyway? Just curious.

yes you can.  look on this web page http://www.jtbworld.com there is a program called smartpurger, which will purge and keep the date un altered.

You can only do 3 drawings with the demo version, but it's $25 to purchase the program and then you can purge unlimited drawings.

well, I stand corrected ... at least in my understanding of the original post ...

How about this ...

No, you cannot do it without a special program.

There was a DOS program in the late 80's from a company called "Great Northern Software" (IIRC) that would do this very thing. They also had a layer translater program. Wonder what ever happened to them, hmmm.
