Does anyone know of a plugin or something that will expand AutoCAD 2000 color options?

Yup...It's called AutoCAD 2004.

Sorry...I figured I'd give you the answer Autodesk would likely give you.  ;)

I've never heard of anything like that...I'm not exactly 100% sure of what you're looking for...have you already tried a google search?

How did I know you where going to say that! Thanks, I did try a Google search with no results. Although that may be a direct result of my short attention span.

I may be wrong, but I thought that the total number of colors availabele on each computer in AutoCad was determined by the graphics card used. High dollar cards let you have more than 256 colors when you configure Autocad.

I'm not 100%, but I think 2004 is the first version of Acad that allows for true colour.  All previous releases allow only 256 colours.

While pre-A2k4 allowed only 256 colors, you could modify the ACI index to virtually any color ... but you could only have 256 of them...This is not done in AutoCAD but rather in the video card settings if your card allows such reassignment of colors. The problem is, that while you can see the nice shade of pastel blue on your screen, it will be interpreted by your plotter as the ACI color you replaced ... and it will show up as the original color on every other system unless they too had the same display corrections....
In A2k4 Autodesk included the ability to use a true color RGB to accomplish this.. essentially you specify the reg, blue and green depth and it is applied to the object.

Thank you all for your input. I do need the colors to be reflected on paper though.

Same answer: Only 2004 and beyond supports true colors. Once you have that you can set true colors through style tables and the rest is up to the quality of your hardware and its driver(s).

I can't remember if the demo versions of AutoCAD allow you to print, but that would be one of your cheapest options...if you only need this functionality as a one time deal.
Go to their website and order yourself a demo version.
Cheap and Dirty, I know...but hey...if it works...

Still does. When all you have is an amber monitor, you don't know from color.
