Best way to learn C3D for free?
« on: December 10, 2008, 03:46:36 PM »
Most likely without the software to do it on.  I've got until Fall semester next year to know at least enough to teach through the basics.  Any tips are appreciated.

Have you got a school email address? If so you can get the student edition of Autodesk software for free
Thanks for explaining the word "many" to me, it means a lot.

Yeah, I've got one of those.  I'll have to look into that.  Thanks.

Ouch.  Good luck!

If you can't get an educational license, I'd say don't even try this one.  It will be hard enough even if you DO get the software, and spend beaucoup hours working with it before your class.  Learning C3D with no official training is like pulling your own teeth.   :?

Unless of course you are good with vague and inconsistent help files and tutorials.

Yes, I have used Autodesk products before.

So you're saying it's more like pulling your own teeth after taking pain killers?   :-)

I've used Inroads/SelectCAD, Autodesk can't screw up worse than Bentley.

Can they?

Bob, are you not in Arizona?  If so; perhaps I could find some time to sit with you and go through some stuff.
Also use the tutorials on my web site as a starting point.

I am in Arizona but wouldn't feel right getting free help when selling help is how you make a living.  Will definitely check out your tutorials.

Bob, I appreciate your position.  In actuality I make my living doing training, (not support) I give away support after the training, because I know my students will not really need any.  I think I understand that you teach at a school, and by helping you I would be helping the cad community by extension.  Also, I would be helping you, knowing (assuming) that you would most likely provide some referrals to help others beyond the academic setting.

Or perhaps if the schedule works we could arrange to do a class at the school in the same fashion as the classes put on by Southeast Technical Institute. That way you could attend the class, learn what you needed, and the school could make a profit on getting you the training you need to teach the classes they want you to teach.  I am willing to bet that if the school were to advertise a class for working professionals it would fill up in under a week.  Perhaps you should contact Rodney Brietling at STI, and ask about the response on the success we have had with the classes.

Another option Bob, would be to download the trail version from the web.
Then watch some of the autodesk web casts' before hand, be selective, and only watch the topics that catch your eye.
Watch my tutorials, and then try do do 'stuff' with it for the full trail period.  You should be able to make decent headway.
Any questions that you have along the way can be posted here, and the most excellent Swampers will always throw you a rope.
