Title: Can't find font during plot to PDF
Post by: CaddmannQ on August 20, 2009, 06:59:47 PM
When I tell Autocad to plot to a PDF (DWG to PDF.pc3) I'm getting the error from Adobe Reader: "Cannot find or create the font ArialMT".

Of course this is only the world's most common font, and lots of our clients want to use it. Right now I'm using a workaround (a substitute font) but it's not exactly the same and eventually somebody's gonna complain.

I'm running plain vanilla AutoCAD 2010 and Adobe Reader 9.1.3, Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS, on an AMD Phenom Quad based machine.

The Arial fonts are all loaded, but they are now OpenType instead of TrueType.

I googled around a bit, but no joy on this issue.

Any ideas folks?

Just an update:

I find that whenever I attempt to plot using “DWG to PDF”, either a file on this particular border, or just the border alone, I get the same error: “Cannot find or create the font ArialMT”.

If, however, I burst that border—converting all the numerous title block attributes into mtext—it will plot without errors, even though the Arial font text remains.

I don't know why, but at least I can deal with the situation.

this isn't exactly your error however it looks like a probable solution to it:

I'm running plain vanilla AutoCAD 2010 and Adobe Reader 9.1.3, Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS, on an AMD Phenom Quad based machine.

The culprit is not Autocad.  It is the Adobe Reader 9.  I and another user had the same issue.  I got the error whenever we tried to print anything with multiple sheets.  Did not matter what printed the PDF in the first place.

I unistalled Reader 9 and installed Version 8 and we had no problems since. This is issue arose from with us in May-June and like you found nothing on the net.

I fixed it with help from a guy on the Autocad forum.

Basically all I needed to do is edit the plotter properties for the DWFtoPDF.pc3 file and change the option for "Capture Some" fonts to "Capture All".

Cool.  But will that fix outside not-cad PDFs?  That was where I was having the problems.  Get a 20 pages PDF submittal and would have to print one sheet at a time instead of the all button.  Freakin Adobe.

I haven't encountered that situation yet. Evidently mine was strictly a .pc3 issue.

Perhaps I will try to recreate it on my PC.

Freakin' non Ghostscript users. Ghostscript will substitute fonts ( I know it can do it while creating a pdf but i would like to check and see if i can do it in a ``scrub-this-pdf'' situation).
