I don't even recall an 'electrical' product around the Version 10 release?
If I recall they had ACAD, ACAD LT, and Softdesk, back that far.

Actually r10 used DCA (I still have a backup set of 5 1/4 360k floppies for DCA used with r10)  I think Softdesk came into play with r12.
You are right there DinØ, I think we saw the demos (a controlled crash-fest with FREE sandwiches) and tried DCA at that time, however it was so unstable and prone to crashes and database errors we could not use it.

also...why not try NOT opening the file and use it as and XREF only?

IF there is geometry that you simply MUST have use COPY NESTED to bring them into the active file.

ummm, odds are he abbreviated '2010' to '10'

I see this all the time now: 10 years later and everyone has forgotten the horror of Y2K!  Those were dark days . . ..

They were exported to AutoCAD...company standards here say these files must be in Acad v.2000...I can not use Xrefs which annoy's me...

I have reset the scale list, and purged everything I can out of the file. Isavepercent is 0

copy nested is STILL a viable work around then

There was an issue in C3D2010 which affected a few people just as described by AVCAD. This was corrected in the latest service pack. However, I didn't know the issue survived an Export to AutoCAD and save to 2000 dwg format. You may need to ask for these drawings to be opened in C3D2010SP3.1 saved, then exported again.

Lets see...I open the file...It prompts me that there are WAY too many layer states saved...DELETED them all.

I also see NO layers with names that would indicate this was ever created by Civil 3D at all. (And I have C3D so I know y'know?)

Then I see that there are THREE missing XREF files...so I ask whom isn't following the NO XREF rule?  OR perhaps you CAN use XREF files.

Purging TWICE and saving as R2000 produces the resultant file size shown in attached image.

We had it working OK with r10 386 but didn't have much need for it so didn't stretch it that much.  We also had a young lisp guru named David Kramer (not THE David Kramer) working with us who rolled his own set of routines that worked very well.  He gifted them to us and gave permission to use and distribute them at will.  I still have a few of them set to load on startup on the rare occasion I fire up something other than LT.

Anti, are you doing this in Civil? Cause I open the files and there are no saved layer states and no xrefs in there when I open these files in Electrical 2010

AVCAD, I get the same thing....plus, this drawing has a save date of 2005, not many people were using C3D in 2005....

Dumb question time: Isn't AutoCAD 2000 DWG format "larger" than 2004 and later formats?  What happens if the file is saved in the latest format?
