One Click Stretch Polyline segment
« on: February 08, 2012, 09:48:15 AM »
While looking at some schematics and one line electrical drawings it occurred to me that a one click
command to drag / stretch a poly line segment might be a good thing. Does that ability exist in any
Autocad versions?  Would anyone be interested in such a routine?

Looks like the wiring drawings keep the poly line segments parallel to the X or Y axis and if you want to
stretch a segment it's easy enough to use the stretch command but I though it might be an interesting lisp.

Pick the segment and use that point (on the pline) to stretch from.
Move the pointer to the new location, pline stretches with the pointer in real time.
Click to pick new location.

As long as the adjacent segments are perpendicular to the segment to be moved and parallel to an axis
the solution is easy. If the adjacent is parallel to the segment to be moved, create a new vertex and
stretch the new segment.

Radius plines would be dealt with in a later version.

Just thought I would toss the idea out there.

Shame you don't have a newer version of autocad. If I'm understanding correctly, they introduced that option in 2010 or 2011.

Money is tight and the housing market in Florida is not likely to recover soon.
So I'm stuck at ACAD2006 but things could be worse.  :-)

How does it do if the pline has radius corners?

Completely understand. North FL is slooooooooow.

With an arc, it just increases the arc radius.

So, were you thinking to use the stretch command to move the segment (so to speak)?

Same here in SW Florida... Outside of the little local work we do have, we've kept 'busy' (if you can call it that), by working on out of state / international projects.

Yes a some what intelligent stretch for electrical drawings.

Unfortunately I'm a one man office so I'm looking at drawing that is not in the housing field.

Understood; I'm in Transportation design, and seeking to transition to Electrical/Mechanical design for either our Power, or Water groups. We've even got some Urban Land guys that fly to Canada for three weeks at a time just to stay busy (working over VPN is hell).

Good luck, CAB!

I thought as much, but since we jumped from 09 to 11, I wasn't 100%.

Some examples  :-)

Thanks Lee, should have looked.
First one stretches segment in parallel direction only but second one is what I was referring to.
Doesn't deal with radius corners but other wise just right.  8-)

Thanks, tough times here in Florida.

Even the one in 2011, if stretching a straight segment, if segments on either side are arcs, they are converted to straight segments.
