Creating/Inserting a simple structure.
« on: May 09, 2008, 01:25:55 PM »
I want to insert a simple structure, which I plan to switch off. All I really need is a Point, just so i can create a bandset to display the structure's chainage and level.

That's it, but why's it so bloody diffucult!

Ideally I need a solution by monday!

I've created a surface and an alignment and a long section view.

I now want to draw some pipe fittings in the profile view and then at each fitting, insert an invisible structure to show that fitting's invert & chainage, whenever it needs to be moved I can just move the structure to suit. It would be far too complicated to build all the pipe fittings, not that I even know how to use part builder yet!

Any help would be great. Thanks

Dave

Settings Tab

Pipe Network>>Create a Parts List, add only a NULL or other structure to the Parts List

Then create your Pipe Network from Layout>> Pick your parts list, and choose INSERT structures only, place the structure as required.

Have a nice Day!

(Note I am traveling back to home office this weekend; however if you still need help with this send me an email on Monday morning)

Hi

I started doing this and it seemed straight forward enough but when I went to select the new parts list, (and you can see in the Network Layout Toolbar underneath) but it wouldn't let me select ok, or even hit cancel, I can only choose one of the other parts lists created by C3D.

Any more tips are welcome. Thanks

Verify the path to your Parts Catalog. This found under the Pipes Pulldown.

The path appears to be correct, I've set so I have the option of imperial or metric parts but still no joy trying to use the null structure.

Hey Michael

Did you get to the bottom of why I couldn't insert the null structure?

I've seen the replies to my other thread too and will try and reply once when I get chance to try the suggestions. I'm just a bit stacked up with other work at the moment.

Cheers

Dave

What service Pack do you have installed?

At some point one could NOT build a network without null structures, and then a Patch was created so that you could create a network with them.  I think in 'fixing' this they broke something, like the ability to actually select a null structure when you want one.

The  fix is to place a structure you do not want. Then delete that structure, the Null structure should then appear.

Thanks DinØ, I was having trouble replacing "jacked up hack" with something 'constructive' and 'respectfull'.
