Topic: XML to InRoads ALG? Anyone??

I have posted this in the past but now the job is drawing to a close and we need to get the required output to give to the client.

I have a centerline alignment created within Civil3D and have exported the data to a LandXML v1.2 file.

Can this alignment file be imported into Bently/InRoads and then have InRoads export the alignment data file into an .ALG format?

Any help someone could give would be greatly appreciated.

I believe InRoads can read LandXML data and the ALG file comes from InRoads so there shouldn't be any issues.  I don't have InRoads so I can't verify this will in fact work correctly.

That is the same thing I have gathered but we had a company we frequently work with give it a try and they were unsuccessful.  I don't know anything about Bently/InRoads to know if it is a program error, user error, file error?

trying to find the right resource...my understanding is that one will be requird to edit the header of the LandXML file to import it into Bentley...fingers pointing in both directions about whom violated what part of the 'standard'

looks like you need to use the lowest vesrion number....during export

and some other settings during import....give this a peep, and have your peeps pee it too

I don't understand why this is so difficult!!  I guess XML is just not as universal as it may seem.

ok..perhaps it was the other way   and I know this isn't your vesrion....so it should be OK...

ok..there also seems to be file size limitations...

so you may NEED to export out the design information into logical chunks and not the entire design file as one....

At this time, there are still limitations when transferring large amounts of data.  Only export essential data.

The only thing contained within the XML file is just the Horizontal Alignment Data.  File size is only 5kb.

has the other party sent you images of the ERROR message(s) and or the results of the transfer if any?

did they watch the video? yet?

I found out that they are using Geopak V8 and not InRoads.  Apparently there is a difference.

I think we have the ROOT cause of this issue identified here:

When you create an InRoads horizontal alignment, the application automatically assigns it a Global Unique Identifier, or GUID. This internal tag helps to distinguish alignments as they are used in profiles, cross sections and the Roadway Designer.
When geometry data is developed in CAiCE and imported into an existing InRoads geometry project using the LandXML translator, the XML file does not include any identification for a specific horizontal alignment. Consequently, the alignment that includes updated CAiCE data is displayed in red in the Roadway Designer, resulting in an error in the InRoads Roadway Designer.

it is possible that the same issue is at play here as C3D IS the Spawn of CAiCE...

now to figure out where or how to add a valid GUID to that alignment XML file, hmmmm

or where we could get that app  C:\cae_rsc\common\AddingGUID\ AddingGUID.exe

I don't think there is an evaluation copy available for any of the Bentley offerings.

I've had a trial version of a Bentley software product before, I think they actually want you to talk to someone before giving it out though.

Depending upon the GEOPAK version they are running, you might need to save the LandXML as version 1.0
