I'd be letting the boss know that he is loosing money by doing things the long way.
Do an example, write down the steps and the time it takes to do whats needed on 1 drawing (including opening, saving & closing the dwg) multiply that by the number of dwgs you need to edit then multiple by the hourly rate = $ spent.
Cost of suitable program = $
make sure you state that the scripting program can do all the work while your busy doing something else (double production, saving time = $)
what costs more?
Give him the dollar figures, they only understand the $ not the time. Even estimate the time saved per week & per year they will soon see that they can save thousands of dollars all at the expenditure of very little.
If they see the dollar savings then maybe you'll get your wish. Plus be sure to state that this scripting program can be used on many jobs in the future therfore saving more money on each job, & of course if each drafty can use it then it's multiplied again by the number fo drafties.
Funny thing is they will most likely complain that it takes to long & is costing to much to get the job done (that is without scripting program)
This all easy said than done of course, because most of them still don't listen. Why is that?
Theres my rant on the subject
