filename length limitation
« on: May 17, 2012, 06:12:29 AM »
AutoCAD (all versions)

Does anyone know what the filename character length limits are ? (including the server address).  I have read that windows (xp) itself has a 260 character length.  Does the same apply to AutoCAD or is it shorter/longer etc?

We are having problems here with some cad files not opening through autoCAD on the server but when copied locally the will open i am just wondering is it a speed of network of filename length problem i'm dealing with.  (the server is off site)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A quicK search reveals that filename length is limited to the 260 characters that you mentioned. There are limits on file paths for network servers. You may want to look into what the limits are for your system.
