In place editor vs. ribbon editor

I remember seeing someone posting about it before, but I can't find the thread, but I was wondering if anyone knows the system variable that will switch the editor (text edit, etc.) from the ribbon to being back on the text object itself?

OK, I found that you can turn on the 'toolbar' in the MText editor settings, but is this a system variable?

MTEXTTOOLBAR=0 Toolbar is never displayed.
MTEXTTOOLBAR=1
Toolbar is displayed upon selection of an MTEXT object.
MTEXTTOOLBAR=2 Toolbar does not display when the ribbon is on.
