(AutoCAD LT) Any idea what this is?
« on: March 27, 2008, 12:20:57 PM »
LT2008 Table.

See the Highlighted area, what is this?

One of our CAD guys in another office did the dwg, and he is on vacation.

Several of his dwgs are like this. Each empty cell has this and it can be deleted. I would just like to know what it is. I tried the 'remove formatting' option, but it doesn't get rid of it.

Any ideas?

I would say it's a bad font definition.  When you open the drawing, the command window might say something like "Can't find Fontname.ttf.  Substituing with Arial.ttf" or something like that.

That's my guess...

Nope, we don't get that message.
I am curious if he did the table in MS Excell, then found a way to paste it all into the table of CAD, and this copying brought along some garbage formatting from Excell.

As I said, I can get rid of it, I am just curious what is going on.

What ever it is, I will slap his hands next time I talk with him.

Perhaps the cell is or was linked to another worksheet, and the copy-paste operation lost this linkage?

We have it happen and chalk it up to a table gone bad.
We make sure we don't copy that table to use (i.e. make a fresh table) and don't use that drawing as a base for any thing else as it seems to propogate within a drawing.

Other then that, no idea, just some odd bug.  Not font unless ariel went bad (and its the only symptom) and our tables were created from scratch as far as I know.

so use fresh templates and make fresh tables to minimize the issue.

Maybe some Autodesk code that roughly translates:

"The third party add-on software you are using is attempting to access features that are disabled in LT.
You are in violation of the EULA.
Please stop."

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

That sounds logical. If you try it in different fonts (maybe cut-and-paste into Word or something), does it ever turn into something readable?

Well, he is back from Vacation and I asked how he made the Cells like that.

Here is his response - "I’ve seen that type of garb appear when I copy from one points list into another. It usually don’t appear when I copy, but if I go back and re-open the drawing later it is there.
This 2008 CAD is wonderful, isn’t it!!!!!"

He said that he is copying from one CAD dwg to another CAD dwg.

He is refering to the table in my first post in this topic. It came from one of his dwgs.

The tables he is using are supposedly the same templates we all use, though non of ours do this. Again, he is in another office.

Same software, same revs, LT2008.
