I can import and export .dwg and .dxf.   Softplan works great for residential and light commercial but it's pretty limited outside of that.  I can draw lines, shapes, and solids of course but when I draw for instance a wall I am drawing a 2x6 wall 8' high with siding on the outside and sheetrock on the inside (depending on what wall type I'm drawing of course)  Once I "build" the model the elevations I generate from it are approx. 90% done for me. Of course I've been using it a while but the learning curve is fairly good from what I hear from others.

I haven't used Acad since School 18+ yrs. ago ( I think it was R12 heh) so as far as most of the differences I'm not sure I'm the best one to say.  Greg has used both I know.

Also SP doesn't support any customization programming as far as I know.  But it seems from reading Youse guy's posts that it already has alot of the features built in that you are trying to do.  But it's all menus and buttons with a few hotkeys. No command line.

Greg may be able to elaborate more.

Can you open .dwg files?

Whats the diffrence between AutoCAD and Softplan?

This is driving me crazy! This is something that has always worked no matter what version of AutoCAD right? I could copy regular objects from 2006 and straight up paste then into R11 no problem right?

I had to downgrade to 2006 and there seems to be no problems with copy and paste....But....

The problem we are having is trying to fix the drawings that we created in 2007 so that people will be able to paste in them again. Right now people need parts of those effected drawings for other drawings. So I have to cut and paste those parts in 2006 and into a new drawing, now making that drawing effected because it carries the problem with it. Like a virus!

I think the only way you will be able to get rid of your "virus" is with one of the early workarounds and export to DXF.   I hope there aren't too many files affected.

Found a thread that references your problem.I think this new 2007 format or the changes to the ARX might have not had their problems ironed out before the product was released.

Doesn't work..... But that's only when I use 2006 and export to DXF.

About 10 dwgs effected but the number are growing.....

Yeah I found that too... seems as if Autocad made a booboo

I know a lot of drawings that were corrupted so badly AutoCAD could not open them have been recovered by opening in Intellicad.  Has anyone tried that approach?

My temporary fix:

From the ACAD2002, open the drawing I need the information to be copied to, insert a block of the drawing that has the information I need. Explode the block(s) and erase the info I dont need. Lame, but it works for now. Less steps than dxf-out, dxf-in. I am not working in 2007 any further until this is fixed, doing so will "infect" other drawings.

You can also Xref the drawing and bind it.......

Even if they release a patch for 2007 this will cause a great deal of problems as those using 2007 wont be inclined to use the patch as they are not on the receiving end of the problem.Im searching the autopdesk daily for some kind of answers to the most annoying problems, but nothing so far.
There seems to be a similar problem emerging here.Ive also mentioned before that our 2006LT users are getting an ARX error that repeats itself for a few minutes while they try cancelling it everytime they try to do a copy paste. We are intending to purchase some more 2006/7 seats but Im beginning to think someone might have to do some rethinking or hold off until Autodesk rectify this problem. What happens when you send a 2007 drawings that are saved down to an earlier version to a client and they run into these problems.
