If your quote was for Civil 3D, you may really want to reconsider - it seems there are some real problems with Vault and data shortcuts.

What bothers me too is that even if you have 2006 you are still unable to open 2007 dwgs..... To me these two versions are to close together to have them incompatible...

Everyone is going to have to start upgrading every year, creating an almost continuous learning curve.

This is the reply from the Autodesk Support Team.

Dear Andy,

Thanks for the additional information, I have now reproduced the problem.

To workaround the issue you should send R2000 DXF files to users of AutoCAD 2000. Alternatively the R2000 DWG files can be inserted into a new drawing in AutoCAD 2000.

This issue is currently under investigation by our development team.

Do you guys ever stop bitching. Your expectations regarding backward compatibility are completely unrealistic in my opinion. They've given you a solution, be ecstatic about it for heavens sake.

Doesn't bother me, I can still cut and paste OK, but everyone who gets my drawings and doesn't have 2007 can't.

I spoke to them again, saying it wasn't acceptable. their reply was

Dear Andy,

The issue has been logged with with the developers with with a high severity issue. I am waiting to hear back from them as to whether a fix will be released.

Unfortunately other than the architect upgrading their version of AutoCAD, the only workarounds are the two I mentioned previously.  I would really recommend the upgrade route for the architect as AutoCAD 2000 is now a retired product and no longer supported.

I will get back to you as soon as I hear anything from our developers.

This is a ridiculous solution.I use 2007 ADT so I have to save down to 2000 versions for my DWG.These files are then worked on by some users using 2006LT.They get this ridiclously long loop of an error message saying an ARX error occured. One way to get rid of the message quicker than a couple of mins from pressing return is to hold down ESC.Were also notcing that there are now sissues with the 2006 Lt trying to insert XREFS that were previously saved down from 2007 to 2000.They get an ARX error message and no matter what they do the XREF would not insert.Im also still having issues myself with 2007,still unhappy with it(I can walk on my hands to the plotter with my eyes closed quicker than the plot dialogue box comes up),might have to be removed.

Kerry, I don't believe that we are babying, it is just good business to have a product we pay for work the way it should. 2007 has an option to save down to 2000 and it should work as it was programmed to do. If they didn't want to allow 2007 to save down to 2000 they should have stated that in their release and should have removed the option to do so.

  *side note*

In Softplan (the cad software that I use) there has never been a "saving down"  Once you open a drawing in a newer version there is no way to open it in an earlier version.  Even the patches between versions are this way.

  *carry on*

Single seat $3000.  You have to have a USB key to run it so only one key per seat.  Basically $3000 per key.  But you do get a  break on additional keys when you upgrade to new versions.

Upgrades have been about $750 for one seat which includes one key and $400 per each additional key.

Average a new version about every 2 yrs.
