printing/plotting TIF files
« on: April 14, 2006, 10:22:28 AM »
Hi all,

I have been getting TIF files recently and have been asked to plot them on
24X36 size sheets. When I try plotting them on my plotter, it hangs up forever
it seems and so I just escape and forget about trying. I can print them on my HP
deskjet but the lines are faint. Anybody know how I can plot/print these
TIF files without purchasing a new plotter or printer? Or purchasing expensive
third party software that might do the job?

You may try plotting to pdf if you have a pdf set up as a plotter, then plot the pdf file to your plotter.
I also use SnagIt as a printer, then I can save it to many different file types.

CAB,

Thanks for your reply. When I click on the TIF file, it comes up in
Windows picture and fax viewer dialog box. It gives me a preview of
the file, but that's all I can do with it. I guess I'm not set up to save it
as a PDF file (not sure). Thanks again,

No, you don't use "save as".
You must have in your Windows System a 'PDF Printer' or a 'SnagIt Printer'.
Then you PRINT the tif, not to the plotter but to the 'PDF Printer'.
When you do this a PDF file is created, then you send that to the plotter.

Or if you have adobe acrobat or some other PDF converter, you can open the tiff file and print from there or directly convert them to PDF.  Try calling your local reprographics company.  they may have a driver that may work on your plotter.  i did that once but only because our plotters were compatible with the reprogrpaher.  OCE 9600.  They had mainly 9800s but one 9600.  Plus they plot using tiff files all the time.  That is, they scan hardcopies to tiffs and plot or make copies from those.
