Of course I have my own little security scheme worked out that prevents 95% of folks from trying to steal copies when I'm not around and trying to use them. I am actually amazed that there are still so few people who even know how to encrypt a LISP routine or lock a VBA project. For the few that do, I have other ways to keep them from getting what they're after. Especially the ones who don't know how to read code very well.
Gee, I'm kinda sorry to hear that.  At our office, I post a link to all source code and functions, and give free rein to any who wish to copy and learn.  The directories are write-protected to avoid noodling up a functioning routine, but that's the extent of security.  If everybody was stingy with their code, the Swamp would not exist, and most of us here would know a heck of a lot less about programming.

I think that maybe you took that wrong. I do not share my stuff that isn't ready for public consumption in the office. I've been burned several times by folks using something and then telling the boss that they got the routine that screwed it up from me. I leave open copies for folks, just not the copies that load into a user session.

JAY is far from stingy with his code or his help.  He gives far more than he recieves in my experience.

The last place I worked had a policy that the PGP files were not to be screwed with, ever, for any reason.  There was a username.lsp that loaded from the network where people could set up shortcuts.  This was so that any user could go to any computer and work as productively as if they were on their own.  I am at a much smaller company now with much less chance of computer swapping so I encourage everyone to set up their CAD in whatever way is most comfortable/efficient for them and will help as needed to get it how they want it.

That may be, I'm just readin' what he's postin'.  He said he has a routine that prevents people from "STEALING copies" and he encrypts his code, plus "other ways to keep them from getting what they're after".

Dunno about anyone else, but I can only read what he posts.

Doesn't sound like you just keeping them from accessing stuff that "isn't ready for public consumption in the office". Care to elaborate??

BTW, I'd like to say I'm sorry you chose to be offended, however, being offended is a choice YOU make, and as such it is not my problem.

If I may comment from a non Acad/Lisp/VBA standpoint...

Jay's post suggested to me that if code he has written is ok for the public, he freely distributes it, but if it is not, he has the programs under lock and key.  I would think he's done this because of past experiences with other people trying to get a program he's working on and have seen him use sucessfully and want to use the program as well.  It also seems to imply that these same people didn't ask nicely for the program.

To be the devil's advocate...

I did read through all the posts in this thread and as some of you got long winded  I started quickly reading through the post.  So I can see how what Jay said can be taken as not willing to share.

In the end....

[peace sign here]

copy and paste it into your acad.pgp file in your support folder (see options for the address) at the bottom
