What would you like to see in the new release
« on: January 14, 2006, 09:53:14 AM »
When the new AutoCAD 2007 release comes out what new features would you like to see?Few things I'd like to see:

Better object selection methods.Like the match properties command button, but one used to match all similar objects to add to your selection.Would be neat to be able to adjust what properties can be added to your selection set via a pop up,like by colour,by block, lines, text etc.Similar idea to the QSELECT command but have it working within in a command for a selection set.You can create your own groups and filters but its not a speedy way of doing things, plus you dont always know you need to select simlar objects until the need arises.

Either do something usefull with the comm centre or just get rid of it.

An improved spell checker one that can bring me to the text in my drawing should I desire, its often hard to know what some words relate to.

Improved intergration with PDF products

Improved translation of drawings from Microstation.More at Microstations end I know but the behaviour of some ex microstation drawings often raises a few eyebrows.

Being able to record macros as you can in Microsoft Word etc

A neater enhanced attribute editor.

Cant think of any more at the moment.I'm on 2004 so its possible some of these have been incorporated in 2005/6

I'd like to see me not having to write code to take advantage of dynamic blocks. That was a huge mistake on the part of Autodesk, IMO. An extra prompt, or two, in the insert command would fix it.

I'd like to see Tool Pallettes integrated into the menu. Having them separate is also, IMO, quite illogical.

I'd like my users to be able to use Workspaces like you would think they should work. If a user positions a toolbar under a particular workspace on an enterprise menu, it should stay there.

Something I would like NOT to see is that irritating

Viewport is view-locked. Switching to Paper space.
Switching back to Model space.

I concur with Chuck on the Workspaces.

I've seen 2007 version Postrio Alpha 3. (only a glimps)
That beta has better support for Microstation (even saves as DGN) and I believe there was also support for PDF.
You can customize double-clicks.
There was 1 tab for your MODEL and 1 for your layouts (=vertical rollmenu).
The dashboard is new, and I remember a new DUCS-command.

Of course thats not all, but this is what I can remeber.

Perhaps I know more next monday. :)

Things I would like to see:
  • To be able to use all commands in BEDIT (like UCS)
  • A crossing/window parallel to the crosshairs
  • Toolpalettes in .CUI
  • 3D dynamic blocks
  • No more plotting as PDF, JPG, etc. , but just use saveas...

Yes that bugs me.I have my installation set to HIDE SYSTEM PRINTERS,thjat way I dont have a huge drop down of plotters to look at each time.Everytime I need to plot to PDF however I have to turn this feature off and then back on afterwards, which is crap.

I would like to see it work. First time out of the box. For once, a well thought out and completed product. All the other stuff listed above can come later.  ^-^

Have you tried creating a .PC3 config that points to the PDF virtual printer.

Where does Autodesk get its information from for product updates?  Maybe if this group of people at the swamp make a list of enhancemnts they are wanting and then narrow them enhancments down to a top ten or twenty list and then present them to Autodesk.  I wonder if they would consider listening and trying to incorporate new enhancments in the future.

Just a thought

Good Day

Not gonna happen. Ever. Despite how much you or I would love for it to. They'd upset their Overlords at Microsoft. Why do you think they dumped Mac and Unix in the first place?

Open/Save DGN files, so I never have to use MickeyStation again.
