Which do you prefer to use Word wraps or Hard returns?

I prefer word wrap, but sometimes in 2002 we need to do a numbered list, and the quickest way we have found of doing that is to put in hard returns (I bet someone here has a better way to do that)

I know I don't use AutoCAD but I would thing with text wrap you might have it wrapped where you don't want it to.

I always hard return. Alot of times AutoCADs text editor doesn't show text as WYSIWYG, and using any external editor just aint as fast. So, I hard return on new lines. Haven't encountered any problems.

Word wrap for long winded drawing notes. Having said that, 98% of our mtext is leader text.

I'm with Kerry on this one.  It depends on the situation.

Mtext by its design is a multi-line paragragh style.  Most paragraphs don't have hard returns however there are times when you want things to be associated together yet other things seperated within the same piece of text.

I had a difference of opinion about this with another draffie.

Whats the points of Mtext having a word processor type interface if you use hard returns for notes?
It defeats the purpose.

He uses them in leaders as well, I personally never use a hard return and instead use the width to control the leader text.

The only time we use Mtext is well, when there are multiple lines of text such as notes.
 One of my pet peeves is when I find strings like 3-FI-1234 as Mtext.

I use hard returns in this instance for note sheets:

1. This is a test to see what happens
    When you want to go onto a second line with hard returns.

2. With word wrap, your second line will
start right under the 2. and I don't like that look.

To avoid that, you have to have your number as one entitiy
and then your information as another...

I used to agree with you, Pieter, but I'm an Mtext convert. 

Using a hard return isn't too bad for original creation, but for the next guy (or YOU) who has to modify the note, it can be a real pain in the butt!

The only occasion where I use text is like where you stated "short strings of text" such as X-001
If my chance I need to add a second line, I have "TT" set to convert to mtext.

Be sure to look for the changes in MText with your next upgrade.  Tabs and numbered list functions have already been added.  Because of these issues, I almost overlooked them in favor of my old alternative methodology.

that is a good point to mention. I'll keep that in mind, but much of what I do/have done gets tossed around, translated and everything else imaginable. So I tend to keep things as simple as possible so that when it does get translated or something like that, the files are much cleaner.

I've just been the person who has had to deal with files that are really messed up.

In 2004, you can set a paragraph indent that eliminates the need for hard returns in numbered lists.
