I used IBM's ViaVoice several years back with mixed results. At the time I had a Sound Blaster (Audiogy, I believe) and a microphone from circuit city that was advertised as being for voice recognition but it seem that I had to constantly 'train' the software to my voice before using it. Once trained the software worked nice but I’d often have to train the software everyday.

I have been told that a good USB mic makes a world of difference, but I have yet to test one.

I got a demo version of one once, pretty good, but took about two weeks to train it to recognise my accent.

But it got there in the end.  I would have bought it, but didn't use one enough to justify the cash outlay.

i just bought a copy of dragon naturally speaking 8 for 80 bucks. i'm doing massive window schedules and will be using it mostly to callout numbers so hopefully that will not be too hard to recognize. i'll give it a shot and let ya know thanks.

Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro is the way to go if you're serious about it.  I use it bundled with a VXI TalkPro-USB headset mic.  I'm still teaching it words and my speach patterns but it's coming along.

A few years ago there was a free demo of Philips FreeSpeech that only worked with IE5. I used it some time and have to say that it worked very well. But I always felt silly talking to a machine (even if there was no one else present). :)

FreeSpeech is now called SpeechMagic.

I have tried "Naturally Speaking" software...

and devlop some program working with it...
but the problem is...is not that faster you think..

Is better to type the command  you need....(more faster)

Some voice recongnition need to search and compare voice with world in database...
result...= to slow.

But this is good for someone who don't have a good keyboard tact.
