Strange request-locking drawing files
« on: July 25, 2005, 10:55:29 AM »
I need a way of locking drawing files within Autocad. I am using 2004. Is there a way to set up a password witing autocad or does anyone have any suggestions on this matter. I am attempting to keep people out of our backgrounds.

Thanks

Depends how important it is to you. If it's REAL important consider cadlock.

Couldn't you just password protect them?

I found a way through Acad options. Go to open and save tab and go to security options...it allows me to type in a password. We are only doing this for our backgrounds. People love to get into them after they have been setup and do whatever they desire.....

You can also access it on the command line by typing "securityoptions".

Another possible option is to MINSERT the whole drawing with 2 rows and a distance of 0. This way the block cannot be exploded. But if the end user is intelligent enough, he/she can figure out that all they need do is insert the block defined in the drawing normally.

Hey Ronjonp, thats nice. I didnt know that existed.

I will try to persuade the powers that be to allow me to use that one. We have found a problem today that will disappear if I can use it here.
Thanks for explaining the word "many" to me, it means a lot.

Is this an in-house problem? If so, what about controlling file access through network priveleges?

why not jsut make the Background files Read-only? This will not let them save the file but view it.
