Mtext defaults

Apologies if this has been answered before I didn't find on my search.
I am migrating to AutoCAD 2020 from 2017.  Starting with the same template, converting txt2mtxt in 2017 justifies the mtext as middle-top and in 2020 justifies the mtext as top-left.  Where is the variable that tells txt2mtxt how to justify the mtext on conversion?  What other variable are read during this process.
