Dual ModelSpace Viewport

Is there a variable that when you have 2 model space viewports (one plan view, and the other southwest view). The active cursor in the viewport will show normal while the other view port will dim / gray scale out? Then as you flip to the other view port, it does the same?

I'm confused, you can only be within one model space viewport at a time. You would never see the "greyed" out crosshair.

Plus, when you are in a SW Isometric view, the crosshair goes from an XY style to an XYZ.

Here is what I am running into. We use Civil3D so usually we have 2 viewports (modelspace) when designing and editing pipes. Currently we have the "preselectioneffect" on 1. Which helps us find where we are working in a plan view when we are active in the 3d view. I was seeing if it was possibly to dim/ fade the previous view so that the preselectioneffect would stand out even more.

Well PRESELECTIONEFFECT is 0 or 1. 1 highlights the selection of the previous window and 0 will simply show dashed lines representing the selection set. The way it sounds you want the display brightness (for the lack of a better term) reduced while keeping the selection highlighting the same?

Sounds like station tracking setto  ALL views would be a benefit to you in this instance:

You know. I just tried that. It works if I am on a profile it will then tracker the alignment in plan view and then the pipe view in 3D View. But as just dragging my cursor just in plan view I get nothing... could be me though.

Well, I have been testing out using feature lines to grade my pipes then snap my pipes to the feature line vertex. I like it, its quick.

uh huh, just that, that doesn't have to happen in a 3d view...
IF

feature lines and pipes (and target surface) are 'isolated' and one uses TAB key whilst selecting SNAP point to ensure feature line is the object being snapped to....

Hey speaking of a snap. With Pipes, is there away to make the snap (instead of the center of the pipe) to be the invert of the pipe?
