I don't know. The person I was chatting to over the phone mentioned the name just once (obviously NOT a sales rep) but then carried on explaining about the overall project.

Triforma is proably the name you need/.  but that's about all I know about it.

From what I can see, Triforma is more like AutoCAD Architecture than Revit. Nothing about it being BIM capable.

Not sure. Triforma has been around a fair few years... before Revit I believe... and yes from what I can remember Triforma was like AutoCAD Architecture.

Apart from cosmetics and being bolted onto AutoCAD, how to Revit and ACA differ?

the differences are immense...

ACA - NOT really parametric, much easier for 'autocad' based brains to wrap their head around

REVIT  -  Totally Model driven, no blocks, yet part 'families' such that a single door or window for example can display and posses all possible variations of that particular model of door or window.

Finally found the name/details of the product... strange I couldn't see this when I looked previously!

AECOsim

and I am guessing that nobody has heard of it means nobody has tried/used it?

Bentley doesn't just have one product to replace Revit; they have several "verticals". In '07 I was evaluating "Microstation Mechanical" or something like that which was roughly Bentley's Revit MEP. ...Since then, they have obviously changed the names of these products (probably why you haven't heard of 'it').
