Any Version Suggestions: 2013, 2014 or 2015?
« on: August 31, 2015, 01:20:39 PM »
We have been working with 2013 for a few years and our current license allows us to use and of the three subject versions. I understand that the file format and Objects are now 100% compatible going between these versions. So, as we roll out new workstations, I want to know what version I should be putting on these PC's. Thanks for your thoughts.

100%????

doubt it.

Any compelling reason to not use the latest? or at least 2015 if the PDF shx/comment problems are an issue...

Our license file tops out at 2015. They send us a new one only when we ask and we only ask when someone tries to open a 2009 project and the software can't get a license. Plus, I've been on assignment for nine months in a Bentley only world, so we have done nothing towards moving from 2013 to 2014 or 2015. Now that I'm back and we are upgrading a number of users PC's, I am looking for any advice on moving to 2014 or 2015. I seem to recall some posts where users mentioned staying in an older version as the bugs were getting in the way of production. I figured before jumping into 2015, I'd see if anyone know of any reasons to hold off at an earlier version.

Each version has bugs, that can't be a reason to stick to a version.
The possibility of a service pack is greater with a newer release.

Also some objects are still not backwards compatible. If you use properties that are unavailable in a previous version, the object becomes a proxy object in the previous version.
The conclusion is justified that the initialization of the development of critical subsystem optimizes the probability of success to the development of the technical behavior over a given period.

Corporate here is sticking with 2014.  No good reason for that -- they thought Adesk would repeat with the 3 year file format change, and want to be staying in the middle of that range.  For 2015, Geomap works a lot better that it does in 2014 -- no more multi-mile location errors, but the precision is still indequate for real design work.  And capturing a Geomap image results in a poor quality capture, but it's at least printable.  good enough for preliminary/planning level work.

The only reason in my mind to not move to 2015 is the aesthetic ugliness of that and later versions.  If you're not bothered by Acad looking like a ten year old version of PaintShop Pro X2, it's your best bet.

All other things aside, I prefer 2013. It just feels faster, less bloaty...
Of course it does have some things that were never fixed for 2013, and fixed later in 2014/2015 SPs (and some things that were just never fixed period).

Having said that, you could debate it all day and never come up with a compelling reason to go with any ONE of the three over the others.

You guys are really instilling confidence! LOL!

Sounds like 2015 is the winner. If its a tossup, might just as well go with the newest version still in our license pool.
