Layer State (From Original DWG to XREF DWG)
« on: August 13, 2015, 07:24:39 AM »
Basically I have a drawing that has some layers, colors and linetypes the correct way (Drawing A.dwg). I have another drawing from (another phase of the project) that has the same layer names but the colors and linetypes are different. (this is more common any more for us). (Drawing_123.dwg) Drawing_123.dwg is xref'd into a new drawing. Since the (Drawing_123.dwg) has the same layers as (Drawing A.dwg). I want to colors and linetypes to match what is in (Drawing A.dwg).

I am so hoping that makes sense...

Could you kinda guide me on how you would set this up?

It seems in the Translate From show all the layers that are currently in this drawing (I am not seeing the Xref'd Layers Names). As for the Translate To, I see the Load but having a wonderful Thrusday because I can not figure this out lol.

Thanks for your help.

While in the drawing that you want to change, start the command.

Load the drawing with the desired layer settings.

Click "Map Same".

Click "Translate".

It is capable of doing more, but this is all I ever do with it.

After running this you may want to turn OFF VISRETAIN and unload and reload the XREF or the changes may not be applied.

Layer States work too.
I would create a Layer State of the layers in Drawing A.dwg you want modified in the other drawing and export an LAS file.  then import & restore it in whatever drawing you xref Drawing A.dwg into.

Layer States is a good option and I so need to start using them, again.

What I like about the Layer Translator dialog box is it shows you what layers are not being mapped. The options to assign mapping properties is a feature that I do not use, but can see how it can be quite handy.
