Is there another option besides Visretain?
« on: August 03, 2015, 12:46:46 PM »
I am looking for alternative of using visretain with xref bases. What I really am looking for is a way that I can reload the base xref in the visretain form but keep the original layers on and off. I was thinking of using the visretain with the layers state, I know that will take some time to do through a lot of drawings but did not know if there was a quicker method.

please describe more completely the problem for which you seek a solution

Otherwise; IF
the goal is to detach/reload XREF and have the effect of visretsain, then for sure set up a saved layerstate PRIOR to detaching/unloading/reloading your XREF files.

Here is the complete scenario. I am trying to compare a set of sheet drawings. The original sheet drawings I want to keep all the layer states (Layers Thaw, Freeze, On, Off) the same.

In the Xref base file that it is referencing I am going to change several colors. No new layer names.

I want to be able to reload the xref base into the sheet drawing while preserving the layers (on, off, thaw, freeze).

End goal is then to print them off on paper to compare the original colors with the revised colors.

Does the help?

This will only work in AutoCAD2016+:
Set variable XREFOVERRIDE=1. Then change the colors in the main drawing (you don't have to reload the XREF).
After you've made the plot, you can restore the layer-state with the original colors.

So it's also possible to have 2 layer-states (old colors & new colors) ;)
