DIMRND vs. DIMDEC?
« on: July 29, 2015, 05:46:45 PM »
Hi Swampers,
Can someone give me an example of when to use DIMDEC vs. DIMRND?  I've always controlled my dimensions using precision over rounding.

Thanks!

DIMDEC (System Variable)

Sets the number of decimal places displayed for the primary units of a dimension.

Type:   Integer
Saved in:   Drawing
Initial value:   4 (imperial) or 2 (metric)
The precision is based on the units or angle format you have selected. Specified value is applied to angular dimensions when DIMADEC is set to -1.

Rounds all dimensioning distances to the specified value.

Type:   Real
Saved in:   Drawing
Initial value:   0.0000
For instance, if DIMRND is set to 0.25, all distances round to the nearest 0.25 unit. If you set DIMRND to 1.0, all distances round to the nearest integer. Note that the number of digits edited after the decimal point depends on the precision set by DIMDEC. DIMRND does not apply to angular dimensions.

One would suspect that DIMRND is used only if one is not terribly concerned with accuracy, or as fits construction/shop practices for a given trade.
