Civil3D or Field Label for Volumes

I have been messing around with an idea where the user can slap a 3D Label on a closed feature line or polyline, which would give them the Area in acreage and Elevation. But I was wondering how could I get it where the user can also have a "reference" of another line within creating a label style?

Or is it easier to look for something that the user selects the top polyline or feature line then the bottom and it puts a field label to calculate the volume in a acre feet?

Thanks for any thoughts on this one.

You can place Segment Labels on a Featureline. In that you can show properties of the segment, and also an overall length and area (which is probably 2D). There is no overall elevation (or mean elevation) to show.

The reference text can not show properties of other Featurelines or Polylines.

What do you exactly want? And why?

I am just brain storming on an idea, the classic way of doing volumes is usually by using excel with elevation and area and do a incremental storage on it. The Civil3D way is to create a feature line, grading group and surface with it. I am just trying to pick a top of bank polyline and the bottom of pond polyline, and from those 2 polylines generate a volume. Like I said, it was just a brainstorm.

LAZY! lol, plus think about this, if you do not meet the storage you are looking for you can move some vertexes and then the label automatically updates.

True, and why the Volume tools in Land  Desktop were better....one could specify a desired volume for a pond, and it would give that to you, IF it were at all possible.

With C3D as it currently exists one must back into designing to the correct volume.

Just thinking though, how could I even get it to do the math with a field, I know civil3D labels I can at least work with those commands within the lable styles.

Yes I know. its horrible isn't it. I am looking at it now. You have 2 surfaces, one for the top and one for the bottom. I see you created a bounded surface. I see you are using the border of each surface to draw your field data from. The formula makes sense. Wow. A lot to this but then again, its lazy and dynamic. Great job. You do know you are sometimes to smart.... right?

I actually did that with polylines not the surface...

the surface was for stage storage....
