EXPLODE is a highly underrated command.

Have you purged the drawing then retried to insert the block?

Was the block at one time an xref with the same name?
I + XI = X is true ...  ... if you change your perspective.

I no longer CAD or Model, I just hang out here picking up the empties beer cans

What are you after?  2d views of a stool, or a 3d model for them?
