blocks and enhanced attributes text
« on: May 11, 2015, 02:46:28 PM »
Hi all,

Block attributes and enhanced attribute text. I have a drawing(s) that have blocks with attributes. I need to change the colors of the text to white. I’m trying to do this in block editor, but I CAN’T change the text. When you double click the text, the Enhanced Attribute Editor will show up, but there’s about 130 of these blocks in the drawing.

How do you globally changed the attribute text globally? I CAN’T use BATTMAN, cause when I do, those blocks don’t show up. So, I’m trying to figure out why I can’t select these blocks in this drawing, and I CAN select others?

Thanks,

do NOT double click the text (ATTRIBUTE)
select it (ONE CLICK) edit the properties

SAVE the Block Edits

Perform ATTSYNC

Be done

IF this fails please post copy of the offending block to let us see how or why it is not working as expected.

I select the block, go to the properties palette and change color. But I CAN'T select attributes - they don't show up. When I explode the block, the polylines become polylines again, HOWEVER, the text is STILL LISTED as a block.

Strange...

Was the block inserted, then modified to remove the attribute and not updated in the drawing?

@chris: unknown. I got this from the contractor.

How do you "update" the drawing? Seriously, this is weird. After I explode the block, why is the TEXT a block? That tells me whoever made the block, DIDN'T MAKE blocks, but ATTRIBUTES? yes or no?

you have a nested block

someone blocked the attribute into another block...very bad practice

further they are NOT attributes they are TEXT objects....

IF I insert that block I am not prompted to enter any attribute information....so these must come from some other source

Edit the Block

Re-define the Attribute ANSCHBEZ_1

set it's properties as you desire.

Save the changes to the Block

Perform ATTSYNC

all should be fine

After a purge, there is only one block in the drawing so no nesting .. I bet the attributes were added programatically.

I concur with attributes being added by some program

However doesn't exactly explain why they are not within the block definition.

Anyway  they can be changed as stated above.

Does not work here.

Quote
Command: BE
BEDIT
Command: ATTSYNC
This drawing contains no attributed blocks.

let me make sure I posted lasted...

It's happy now

Also those were instructions taken out of context...

I said one can or should RECREATE the ATTRIBUTE

ANSCHBEZ_1

Thens after closing the block editor and saving those changes one can perform
an ATTSYNC and all should be well.

Ok...1.I'm trying to use the BE command, but "BE command not allowed. Block Editor is disabled." WTF? Is this a permissions thing?
2. When I DOUBLE-CLICK the block, I can't get to the attributes. The block only shows up. If I double click the text, then I can change the color in the Enhanced Attribute dialog, but I'm still at a loss on how to globally change the attributes.

Super frustrating...FWIW, I think these drawings are from the mid-90's...meaning they've been used since then and re-used mulitple times.

Set the value to 0 (zero).

@mjfarrell: can you post a 2012 version of that drawing you fixed? I'm on 2012 over here.

OK, I'm at my wits' end on this. I have created a brand new block with an ATTRIBUTE. I have tried to REPLACE THE BLOCKS, but they come up very small (maybe I made them in a different scale?).
Then I tried to replace the offensive block by deleting one, and insert the new one (which came out ok), but I can't do that 130 times.

I appreciate the help on this, I'm just trying to nail this because I don't want it to pop up again.
